educational insights sneaky snacky squirrel

Janie & Joe carries a large range of toys and games with a SEN (Special Educational Needs) focus, which are ideal for children with different learning styles or who are dealing with learning challenges.

In this blog post, we highlight some of the games we recommend from Melissa & DougEducational Insights and The Green Board Game CompanyBrainBox Games!

BrainBox Dinosaurs- Cognitive Skills

What child doesn't love dinosaurs? BrainBox Dinosaurs is a fast and fun memory-based game that doesn't require any pens, pencils, paper, playing board or even a table!

This game develops observation skills and memory, rather than learned facts. Parents of children with Asperger's, or who have kids who are dyslexic or autistic, have found BrainBox games to be especially helpful in developing their children's short-term memory.

You can purchase BrainBox Dinosaurs on our website here.

We have a large range of BrainBox games at Janie & Joe, covering a wide range of themes and topics so you'll be sure to find something you like. Please check out our range here!

The Sneaky, Snacky Squirrel Game- Cognitive / Fine Motor Skills

Your forest friends are hungry and they need your help! Spin the spinner, squeeze the matching coloured acorn with your special Squirrel Squeezer, and be the first to fill your log with delicious acorns!

This is a great first board game for children. It reinforces colour learning, matching, sorting, counting and early math skills. It develops foundational skills including strategic thinking, fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, and pre-handwriting skills.

We've found that as the game encourages turn-taking, it's a great way for shy children to develop their social skills and for learning how to interact in groups.

You can find this award winning game by Educational Insights on our website here.

This unique deck of cards by The Green Board Game Co lets you play two family favourites- Snap! and Pairs.

The My First Sound Snap Cards use Early Years reading strategies to help young children develop speech and language skills.

For example, to play Snap! with this special deck of cards, you're trying to "snap" letters with images of items that begin with that letter!

To play Pairs, you simply turn all the cards upside down and look for two which match.
